Miking Up

We miked up a drum kit in the audio seminar! This was useful as I learned what type of mic to use on each drum. I have a video that I took on my phone but can't get youtube to accept it. I will upload it when I have got to the bottom of it! Also started to get to grips with the pro tools interface and different types of tracks etc.

Documentaries

For my first AV project I am doing a documentary. It is in a group of five and we called ourselves 'Something Productions'. Can't remember why!.. Anyway things seem to be coming together. We have decided upon a topic... Parnormal Investigation. With the heightened popularity of things such as 'Most Haunted', we are going to explore the lives of people who do, and don't, beleive in ghosts and spirits. We have contacted a group who do, and they seem excited to work with us. Next step is more research into the topic, and the style in which we are going to shoot. Then we will set up a preliminary meeting with the group.

Kind of excited, but a little nervous at the same time. I personally have never believed in the supernatural, but knowing that people seem to have proof is a little unnerving! Despite this we will try and remain impartial and neutral as not to jepodise the documentary.

First Post

Hi! This is my first professional blog, and hopefully my only. It will show my academic journey from the beginning of year two in my Multimedia degree to infinity!

Here is my first post, well, on this BETA blog anyways. I will label the posts into catagories. General, Audio, AV, Direction. This way readers can find posts by catagory (Well, hopefully!).

Studio Introduction

In my studio session in audio engineering, I learned basics on the desk controller and some fundimentals in pro tools. We had a saxophone player in, and Justin played piano. We miked up the piano with a stereo mic, and had three mics on the saxophone. One overhead, one near the keys and one at the bell. We used condenser mics for the keys and the bell, and a dynamic mic for the overhead. This was a mistake! We should have used a condenser mic for the overhead, as the dynamic was not sensitive enough. Oh well, I will now know for next time. The other mics however worked well, and we used the signal from them to record. When we listened back to the recordings, we could hear the difference between the mic at the bell and the mic at the keys. We used a combination of the two to get the best sound that we could.
